And consequently, they are the ones whose emotions we will empathize with! So basically, the more we relate to a character, the more easily the storytellers can make us experience that character’s emotions. Most moments of reflection only happen with characters we can identify with, because they are the only ones whose memories we consider significant. (I mean, how often do we see a flashback in the character’s life and think “Wow, I can’t believe he’s not over that yet”?). But usually we are supposed to be experiencing whichever emotion the character is also experiencing. Nostalgia, grief, regret, anger, fondness, satisfaction… the list goes on. It is reminding us of an event or person that we actually saw or met in the story, and inviting us to remember that experience along with the character currently engaged in reflection.īut what does this accomplish? Well, usually the memory we are being reminded of is supposed to conjure up a certain type of emotion through empathy. In this type of reflection, the story takes a moment to immerse the viewer/reader in the recollection of past events/characters that we as the audience have witnessed. If you didn’t read last week’s article, it might be helpful to get the background, because I’m going to dive right into this week’s topic: The power of audience recollection. I briefly explained the two types of recalling that stories use in order to either reveal information or to reiterate it in the minds of the audience. Last week we talked about the role of “reflecting” or “recalling” in storytelling-how it illustrates something that we all experience as humans: the power of memory. If not, do NOT read any further or you will forever rue the day that you let me spoil it for you. We need to understand the importance of this day and tell our story since 1962 to todate.2 Comments First, let me ask: have you seen La La Land? Our leaders must learn themselves the actual meaning of independence we should differentiate speeches meant for the state of the nation address and focus on independence. On this day of 9th October we tell only truth as a land mark to set new goals and work hard to achieving them. Our men and women in uniform need to stay away from partisan politics that is sucking them into exchanges within partisan practices. Our men and women in uniform that signed up to protect our country have done a remarkable job we need to work on the frailties that are eating up the ethics and discipline within the forces across the sector. It is a day to celebrate, become united like never before, walked together regardless of our political, racial, religious affiliations and forge a way forward to working together as a nation that is called being one. Independence literally means we are free but if the definition is being challenged by intolerance of some of our leaders, then that is a challenge we need to work on. Alone by abusing we abuse our history whether it was dark, bright or challenging it is our story, we need to tell with our heads held high that we have or can over more challenges of that nature. We need stand up and recognize the good done by the past leaders than castigating and abusing them. The independence spirit is about who we are, where we came from and what we are doing to be better. We need to recite their names, we need to inspire young Ugandans to become like those who came before us. It is not just another holiday from work, but a celebration of those who have gone before us to ensure our freedoms. There are those who stood up for the values that keep Uganda great, sometimes sacrificing personally. It is important that “the next generation understands what our holidays represent. The red in the flag is for the blood of those who died defending this country. We all should be reminded that freedom is not free. On this day of 9th October, we should conjure up feelings of liberty, freedom, and patriotism.
